Almost everybody on campus has heard of the new girls social clubs, Zeta Pi Zeta and Delta Nu. But what makes them stand out among the older clubs? What will they do to attract new members this year?
Zeta Pi Zeta has already set themselves apart from other clubs by creating door hangers that stand out on members’ doors.
“A lot of our girls came from Shantih and Regina, so since we know how their club week is done, we can make ours different than what we’ve already experienced,” Miller said.
Delta Nu plans on finding a diverse pledge class this year in order to keep away from developing a stereotype, club member Mary Armstrong said.
“We also want to emphasize that playing sports for our club is just for fun,” Armstrong said. “Anyone who wants to play should be able to play.”
Along with new door hangers, Zeta Pi Zeta has been changing aspects that are common in other clubs. Instead of having Sunshine Girls, they’ve been renamed Little Misses, and other officer names have changed as well, Miller said.
The newest clubs have different views as far as the amount of pledges they are willing to accept this semester.
“We’re hoping to become a big club such as Delta Gamma Rho or Ju Go Ju,” Miller said, but she also added that they have no set number of pledges they are going to accept.
Delta Nu, however, plans on taking about 20 new members. Armstrong explained that they want more original members than new members.
“This way the girls who started Delta Nu will have more say in club matters than new pledges, and the club can be what we envisioned it to be,” Armstrong said.
The original members of each club have varying amounts of actual club experience. Delta Nu’s members are spread out between Ju Go Ju, Zeta Rho, Pi Theta Phi, Delta Gamma Rho and Regina, according to Delta Nu Vice President Katie Shields. According to Miller, most of Zeta Pi Zeta’s members were not in social clubs before joining.
“Before we could actually get started, we had to do what we called ‘Club 101′ in order to help the girls who had never been in a club get used to how it works,” Miller said. “But that was the fun part; it’s what being in a club is supposed to be about.”
