Associate professor of English Dr. Amy Qualls has been chosen to serve a two year appointment as faculty fellow in the Honors College. Qualls has been a part of Harding’s faculty for 11 years, with several of those spent also teaching Honors Symposium over the summer.
The Harding student body elected junior interdisciplinary studies major Megan Sledge and junior management major Laney Bell as next year’s Student Association (SA) president and vice president, as announced on April 8, along with sophomore medical humanities major Britney Njeri as secretary and junior accounting major Grant Moore as treasurer.
Harding Academy’s robotics team, Breakaway 3937, hosted the FIRST Robotics Arkansas regional tournament in the Rhodes-Reaves Field House last weekend. High school robotics teams from across the U.S. and Mexico competed in hopes to advance to the World Championships in Houston, Texas.
Harding hosts national singing competition, opera singer Meroë Khalia Adeeb
Harding is hosting the Arkansas chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing’s (NATS) spring conference and competition on Saturday. As part of that conference and in collaboration with the Arts and Life program at Harding, opera singer Meroë Khalia Adeeb will be performing as the featured singer tonight.
In January, associate professor of communication Jim Miller was promoted to assistant dean of the Honors College. Starting in August, associate professor of engineering James Huff will begin a new position as senior faculty fellow for the Honors College.

SA holds lament poetry contest
Assistant professor of English Paulette Bane published her second book of poetry Jan. 3. The book, “Wading through Lethe,” was published under the name Paulette Guerin and explores the theme of memory, drawing inspiration from mythology and Bane’s childhood.

Searcy is a small college town where seemingly not much happens, but in 1974 one of the biggest murder cases in White county history took place right here in Searcy. Years after the murder happened, Mike Allen and Deana Nall decided to dive back into the case and write a book centered around the story.
Black students attending Harding University in 1968 formed the social club Groove Phi. Fifty-three years later, the Black Student Association (BSA) will pay homage to the original members of Groove Phi with a ‘60s themed celebration today, Oct. 29.
Two students lead Downtown Singing
Freshman Luke Walling led the Harding cross-country team as the top runner through the first three meets of the season. Walling placed first in his first two collegiate races and was the first finisher of the Harding men’s cross-country team in the third.

Harding welcomes a new academic club to its shores this semester with WISE: Women in Science and Engineering. Initiated by junior biochemistry and molecular biology major Libby Hinton, WISE seeks to connect women of STEM and help them build community together.
