The Lone Bellow preformed in concert last Tuesday in the Administration Auditorium. Hundreds of people, mainly students, were present at the concert. As expected, the trio offered a great performance that engaged the public.
The Lone Bellow trio is comprised of Zach Williams, Kanene Pipkin and Brian Elmquist. They released their self-titled debut CD last January and, during the concert they recorded at least one song for a future CD. Lone Bellow is well known for their “Brooklyn Country” style, and their music certainly created an exciting atmosphere inside the auditorium.
While the trio was singing, students gathered in front of the stage, some even getting to high-five Williams. The trio sang, but also joked a little bit with the audience. Their talent and passion were certainly transmitted through each song to everyone who attended.
Their lyrics may have a melancholic connotation, but they actually have rousing choruses and could be considered as enthusiastic. Also, The Lone Bellow’s music transmits a strong familial feel, a sense of closeness.
At one point during the concert, The Lone Bellow left the stage. Everybody thought it was their last song; suddenly, the audience started yelling for another song. The trio came back on stage and continued singing.
Esquire Magazine placed Lone Bellow as the No. 1 music group to watch in 2013. LA Weekly Music listed them as the best folk band debut of the year. They are certainly a group to keep an eye on.
