Flor Flores is a junior double majoring in Marketing and International Business and a Walton scholar from Panama, as well as the American Marketing Association (AMA) vice president and the student in charge of organizing the “Fash Bash” fashion show on April 16.
Flores even runs her own fashion blog called www.florkflores.com.
“I started a blog about a year and a half ago just for fun,” Flores said. “Of course it started out just in Spanish because that’s my (native) language. Since I was little, I’ve always liked to model and I’ve always liked fashion. I started to add fashion posts to my blog as much as I could.”
Coming to Harding, Flores said she was not sure about majoring in fashion.
“I didn’t want to study fashion at first,” Flores said. “I think business is a broad subject to study. I would love to have a fashion brand someday with clothing, shoes and accessories. I’m thinking about getting a master’s degree in fashion. This is how I plan to link my major with my fashion interests.”
Flores also acts as the social media director for the International Business Society, marketing director of Smiles for Christ, activities director for women’s social club Ko Jo Kai and works in the bookstore.
“I’m very afraid of the future,” Flores said. “That’s why I do so many things, to build a good foundation for my future. I’m not the kind of person that can sit in the library all day just studying … I think Harding is a great place to focus and have many professional or extra-curricular activities besides just studying.”
Sophomore Oscar Crespo is a very close friend to Flores.
“(Flores) is a very dedicated person and she works really hard for what she wants,” Crespo said. “I love all of the things she does because she has a purpose. She’s busy every single day and she’s never wasting time.”
Senior Cheyenne Little said she met and became close friends with Flores in speech class her junior year.
“I did an ‘about me’ speech and talked a lot about my love for Ko Jo Kai,” Little said. “She came up to me (afterward) saying she was interested in joining our club. I encouraged her to do the club process, and before I knew it she was (joining) Kojies and was selected as my little.”
Little said that her and Flores have remained close friends, and that Flores’ hard work and determination have been an inspiration to her.
“If I were to give advice to the students, I would tell them that they need to get out of their comfort zone,” Flores said. “Just try to participate and get involved. Harding is a good place to find those opportunities.”
