Throughout the semester, students gathered in the Legacy Park Community Room next to the campus Starbucks to enjoy Open Mic Night, an event where students sign up and perform an act of their choice. According to the CAB office, spots are limited and fill up fairly quickly.
“Open Mic Night is definitely a treat,” sophomore Elizabeth Keating said. “Whether I am stopping in to relax with a quick cup of coffee or I just need to catch a break from many hours of studying, the performances are definitely worth watching. We have some very talented students on campus, and I love that there is an outlet such as this event to showcase that talent.”
Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m. was the second-to-last Open Mic Night of the semester. There, students performed acts such as rapping, singing and spoken word. Acts included singing by Hannah White, original poetry by Dylan Headley and spoken word by Daniel Reese.
“I have been to many of the Open Mic Night events at Starbucks this semester,” sophomore Jordan James said. “I really appreciate how this event brings the student body together to enjoy a night promoting each other’s talents and ideas through music. My favorite act of the night was the Ragin brothers singing. I just love the melody of their voices and the sound of their harmony when they sing together. They did a really awesome job, and I hope that they perform again at the last event of the semester.”
Students were judged and a few winners received rolls of cash or gift cards at the end of the night.
“Open Mic Night has made a great impact on me as a Harding student,” sophomore Cassidi Shorter said. “As a performer, it has been a great outlet.”
The last Open Mic Night was held the Tuesday of dead week. According to Open Mic Night hosts, this was a great chance for students to take a break from cramming and studying for tests and relax with a night of entertainment and fun.
