Friday evening, two students, one decision. What do you want to do for dinner? Says the first friend. “I don’t know, what do you feel like? Says the other. “How about pizza?” “Sounds good to me!” But this is when the real dilemma starts.
With two pizza places recently opening Searcy accommodates 11 pizzerias not including pizza restaurants in surrounding communities less than 20 miles away. Searcy residents can choose from two Pizza Huts, Charley’s Pizza, Larry’s Pizza, Pizza Inn, Mazzios, Dominoes, Papa John’s, Brick Oven Pizza, Pizza Pro and Little Caesars.
All have their perks. Pizza Hut has their coupons, Charley’s has the atmosphere, Larry’s has the variety, Mazzios is great on Sundays, Papa John’s has facebook updates, Brick oven has it’s style, Pizza Pro has it’s Harding discount and location, Little Caesars has hot and ready pizzas and Pizza Inn has it’s buffet. But who can really choose?
As if Harding students didn’t get enough pizza at theCharles White Dining Hallthey are a main contributor to local pizzerias’ income. It is also not uncommon to see students at Searcy grocery stores buying frozen pizzas. It may be American’s obsession with pizza or even just college students liking the simplicity of a pizza dinner. Either way some may say Searcy has more than enough pizza places.
Which is the best? Who knows, it seems like each have their own following. With the opening of Papa John’s, the restaurant has embraced the social media world and along with most of the college population now has afacebook page. Papa Johns updates specials and freebees daily. Dominoes has a new website where customers can order pizzas and can have them delivered or picked up.
With the economy not at it’s best many consumers are looking for more bang for their buck. Pizza places with a buffet are a popular destination for the “poor college student.” But for those looking for more taste than price might try Brick Oven Pizza or Charley’s Pizza. Both are different in style and in taste but both have some of the largest followings.
One pizza place will never satisfy everyone’s tastes and some may feel both extreme dislike or like of particular restaurants. One thing is for sure though; Searcy has enough to choose from when it comes to Pizza. With the population growing and student enrolment on the rise it would not be surprising to find more pizzerias popping up every few years.
