Students involved in Club Week 2009 can finally breath a sigh of relief now that the induction process is complete. Club vice presidents, who typically bear induction week responsibilities, are especially relieved.Senior Billie Peters, vice president of Shantih social club, chronicles below her efforts throughout the induction process.
- April 2009 —Officers are voted into place.
- The next day — Vice presidents and pledge masters start working on club books.
- Summer 2009 — Making Club Week schedule and organizing mixers
- First week of school, 2009 — Reserving rooms for mixers and club activities
- Every Tuesday — Inter-Club Council meetings with Corey McEntyre, director of student activities
- Thousands of photocopies in the library, double sided of course
- A T-shirt design created
- Memorizing names of new inductees
- Arriving early to all Club Week events — 4:45-10:45p.m. Sunday through Friday
- 1 a.m. runs to Walmart and Walgreens
- Attend classes, classes, classes, sith in the student center. Lunch is skipped, maybe even dinner if someone doesn’t run to Sonic for you
- Delegating
- Cheers for nightly all-club devotional by noon
- Making old members happy
- Making sure new members are not being mistreated
- Making sure new members know their stuff
- Grading inductees tests
- The overwhelming urge to quit every day
- Rough Night and preparation for its activities.
- One minute after Rough Night is over — relief. “Relief that the week is over, that the planning is over, that you’re just another member again,” says Shantih VP Jonelle Taylor. Joy. “Joy that we brought a new class into our club that has grown close to eachother and our members.”
