As my last article concluded with James 4:14, “you are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away,” I now realize how this verse has become so much more real to me. Today is another day in a year that has been transitional and transformational for me. Today I am reminded of how thankful I should be for the life that I have been given and the breath that fills my lungs each passing moment.
This week, my senior moment is not about an object that has affected my college career or a staple that I need to study. I want to devote this post to a person. Courtney Book was a friend of mine, she attended my home congregation where my father preaches, Kensett Church of Christ. She exemplified purity, purpose, dedication, love and joy. Her laughter and singing could be heard throughout the entire auditorium and her sweet smile displayed that she cared for you and listened to what you had to say. Courtney Book was a woman of God and gave her time and efforts to helping others and putting them before herself. I praise God for the life that she was able to experience and the lives that she will forever impact through the legacy that she has left.
These trying circumstances and times of sorrow are ones that are sometimes unexpected and unbearable. However, these times are what bring families and friends together. They humble us and show us that we are never alone. Heartache breaks down barriers, brings healing catharsis, evokes emotions that are ever-changing and provides eye-opening revelations. I am a person that remembers far too many details and memories to count, so I urge you today to remember Courtney Book. Remember her faith and her fervent love for the Lord. Remember how precious this gift of life is, how important you are to others and to the Kingdom, and remember the Book family, friends and loved ones in your prayers.
Above all, remember what Jesus speaks in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
