Delta Gamma Rho and the Student Association are sponsoring an event known as “The Service Bazaar” on Friday, March 1 in the Ganus Athletic Center from 7 p.m. to midnight.
DGR service directors Katie and Kelcey Simpson said they have worked hard planning numerous stations for students and faculty to come together and fellowship as well as have a chance to give back to their community and to the rest of the world.
There will be stations including the following: a station for writing letters to missionaries, a station to make gift bags for kids associated with the backpack programs around Searcy, a painting station for making art for the elderly at nursing homes and other stations that are still in the planning stage.
CAB is also partnering with the SA and DGR and hosting an open-mic night at the Bazzar.
There is a $3 entrance fee for all who attend. The money will be distributed between two charities, including the Jesus Project and the Havens orphanage in Zambia.
The Jesus Project is an organization that supports kids to stay in school in El Salvador. They provide transportation to and from school, backpacks, school supplies and provisions for field trips while teaching them about economic opportunities that exist after they graduate from high school. The Havens, an orphanage in Africa will receive half of the money raised to help fulfill the needs of the children that live there.
“We hope that it reinforces the truth that we can make a great impact through small gestures,” Katie Simpson said.” Service is often made of the smallest things, like kind words in cards. We have so many resources that can be used to bless others. We also like the fact that it is not just about donating money. We will be donating our time. We will begiving love to others through something that they can visibly see and touch.”
The Bazaar will also have baked goods and hot drinks. There will be a special deal that includes a drink and treat combo for $2.
