Many people have special Bible verses that are close to their heart. Bible verses are one of the many things in life that we know are true. People look to verses for comfort, reassurance, strength or whatever they need to put themselves at ease.
One of my favorite Bible verses is Joshua 1:9 (NIV), which states “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
This verse speaks out to me because it gives me comfort. The fact that God can be around me when I am struggling and when I’m happy lets me know that he is almighty. I feel that with God constantly around, I can lean on him for support and know that he is there for me.
As the Lord was to Joshua I feel he is to me. He tells Joshua that he is going to give him territory and everywhere that he sets foot is his. In Joshua 1:5, he tells Joshua, “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. I will never leave you nor forsake you”. I feel that he is also talking to me when I read that, because just as he told Joshua that no one will stand against him, I feel that he promises the same for me. So far he has taken care of me and even though I may run into obstacles or people who turn away from me and have tried to challenge me, God has brought me through it. The fact that I am still going strong proves to me that he has never left my side.
When God said he would always be with us that does not mean that we are not going to face challenges. We will face challenges in life, and we will come upon troublesome times. This is merely a test of our faith and I know even in these hard times I can turn to God for help. God may not stop things from happening all the time, but he has our backs. Everything evil we face is just part of life.
At home I have the verse Joshua 1:9 on a cross hung up on my wall in my room. Every now and then I look at it and immediately feel happiness. It always reminds me that I should never fear and never worry about anything because God has it under control. God is with anybody who believes in him, and this verse is to remind them that they are never completely on their own in life.
