Cassie Chalenburg
Bichon Frise and Maltese mix
Owner: Kara Chalenburg, residence life coordinator of Searcy Hall
How did you and your dog meet?
Cassie was our first baby, basically. We got a call from a friend one summer who knew someone who needed to find a home for several puppies. My husband said we did not need a dog, so we met the dogs. My husband liked one dog, but I liked Cassie, so we got Cassie.
What is your dog’s favorite thing about Harding?
Cassie loves watching everyone walking to Starbucks. She also loves scaring boys in the lobby. She will walk up behind them while they’re sitting on the couch. She will bark at them and then run back into my office.
Does your dog have a favorite toy?
Cassie does not like toys, but she does like cheese and Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets.
What is your favorite thing to do with your dog?
I let Cassie go on walks with students to build connections and get exercise.
Can your dog do any fun tricks?
Cassie can shake, sit and stay.
Do you have any funny stories about your dog?
Cassie can get all of us out of the house when any alarm goes off. When my family and I were in Florida for Christmas Break, my parents’ smoke alarm went off, and she made us all go outside. She would not stop barking and pushing us outside until we all made it out safely.
Does your dog have a favorite study spot on campus or place to relax?
Cassie loves sleeping under my desk or in the sun with a fuzzy blanket.
Does your dog have a favorite Harding holiday?
Cassie enjoys Spring Sing because there is a bigger crowd walking to Starbucks, and there are more people to give her walks.
