Several media outlets are preparing to cover the upcoming election period. Harding’s streaming service, the HU16 Live at Five Show, is getting ready to broadcast the election.
Sophomore Ava Hagedorn will anchor the election show. She said she is excited to be an anchor for the upcoming production.
“I think it is a great opportunity for students, especially journalism students, who want to do it with their lives,” Hagedorn said. “The election show is also an opportunity for mirroring a professional atmosphere.”
This is an opportunity for students to experience real election coverage. Senior Ella Brumley will be anchoring the election show along with Hagedorn. Brumley said this is going to be an interesting show since her major is political science. It will be also challenging for Brumley because she usually does shows that are 30 minutes long, while the election show is 2 to 3 hours long.
Brumley said successful election coverage will require many people to work hard..
“We will start at 7 p.m. once the polls are closed and then we will run it till I guess about 10 p.m.,” Brumley said.
Instructor of communication Noah Darnell is the producer for HU16. Darnell said they will be doing the returns primarily for White County, and also some of the big returns locally.
“The students are learning how to do that, kind of modular control,” Darnell said.
Darnell said they have people from different majors in the HU16 crew so they have the experience of working in TV.
