The Harding University volleyball team ended their game against Oklahoma Baptist University Oct. 25 with a 3-2 victory, bringing their season record to 16-7.
Head coach Meredith Fear said they had little time to prepare for their game.
“We didn’t have very much time to prepare for Oklahoma Baptist,” Fear said. “We played Southern Nazarene University the day before, so it was a big one-night cram session. But we know their style of play pretty well at this point, so it was really just communicating that to our team on Saturday.”
Coach Fear spends time preparing her players for each opponent they face. Junior middle blocker Jacey Lambert said the team prepared and had a plan for their game against Oklahoma Baptist.
“In our practice, we definitely go over a plan for the game,” Lambert said. “We watch film, we scout them, we take notes; our coaches do a really good job of putting together stuff for us to go over.”
Lambert said her favorite play against Oklahoma Baptist was a point scored by sophomore setter Olivia Wiedower.
“She dumped the ball and won the fifth set for us,” Lambert said. “I think that was the play that everybody was pretty excited about, which was pretty cool.”
Junior outside hitter Maegan Lacy said they outlasted their last opponent.
“Some things that ultimately won us the game was us never letting up,” Lacy said. “When they got a kill or went on a run we went right back at them and outlasted them in the end. We can always improve on controlling the emotional rollercoaster that comes with the long-fought games. Controlling the waves of energy is a huge factor when it comes to winning games.”
The Lady Bisons will travel to Arkadelphia on Monday, Nov. 4 to take on Ouachita Baptist University. The first serve is set for 6 p.m.
