For the last several years, I’ve had an increasing desire to write, not just for myself in a journal, but in order to encourage others and hopefully share something of value. This is my first foray into doing just that, and it is with excitement, as well as a little apprehension, that I write. With appreciation to the Bison and her staff, you (should you choose to read on), will get a front front-row seat to this exploration as I pen musings.
One of the thoughts I wished I had grasped more deeply at a younger age (and if I’m honest, I still wrestle with tremendously) is summed up succinctly in a luggage tag I found a few years back. It simply states, “I’m not perfect, but I’m limited edition.” The Barbie pink and white tag hangs from my jewelry organizer, reminding me that when I look in the mirror, I need to look past the wily hair, deepening wrinkles and glasses to recognize that God has gifted me with everything I need to live a life full of purpose in Him and that He has tasks for me to do!
Now, that’s not to say that they can only be done by me; no! To relay something I heard Beth Moore say at a conference, “I’m not good enough to mess up God’s plans!” Whether I step up to the plate and do the tasks that God has for me to do or not, His will and purposes will be done. However, why would I want to sit on the sidelines when I’m being asked to join in, to actively participate? Rocks can cry out, but why would we want them to praise in our place? You and I, every last one of us, have the opportunity to put our faith into action. We get to be active as salt and light, permeating and engaging with others inside and outside our comfort zone. We have the chance to dauntlessly love others and serve God by serving others. Sometimes it will be messy, scary and hard, but it will be good. Seeds may germinate years or even decades after they’ve been planted, but we can trust that God’s Word will not return void. None of us are perfect, but we are all limited editions…what are you going to do with your edition?
