Molly McLarty
Maltese and Poodle mix
Owner: Bruce McLarty, president of Harding University
How did you and your dog meet?
We got our grandchildren a Maltipoo for Christmas one year and fell in love with it. So we got a sister from another litter for ourselves.
What is your dog’s favorite thing about Harding?
Molly’s favorite thing is going for a walk around the outside of campus at night.
Does your dog have a favorite toy?
She had a little stuffed black and white dog that looked a lot like her. She loved to growl at it, throw it up in the air and just generally tell it who was boss. It was “loved to death” and is with us no more.
What is your favorite thing to do with your dog?
Without a doubt, it is to be greeted by her at the back door at the end of the day. She jumps up and down, playfully bites my fingers and then finally rolls over and lets me rub her belly. That makes even the toughest day a lot better.
Can your dog do any fun tricks?
No, but I’m pretty sure she tells other dogs that she has taught us to do several.
Do you have any funny stories about your dog?
I can’t think of any funny stories, but she does make us laugh every day.
Does your dog have a favorite study spot on campus or place to relax?
“Study” and “relax” are not in Molly’s vocabulary. She is very high strung and mainly enjoys barking and chasing.
Does your dog have a favorite Harding holiday?
Summer break — I’m afraid she likes to have the campus to herself.
