White County Cleanup is a free serviceoffered for White County residents to discard unwanted items and trash. The event is hosted by White County and the city of Searcy and will take place April 26 -28.
The event is held twice a year, once in April and once in October. These events are supported by the Keep Arkansas Beautiful innitiative.
“Each year, our goal is to make sure everyone knows when the cleanup is and to take in more than the year before to prevent litter,” Hosting Coordinator at the White County Judge’s Office Holly Pulley said. “White County does not have a landfill so this service is very important because without it, the residents do not have a good option to discard of unwanted items or they would have to pay a fee to discard of it.”
Only certain items can be accepted such as: regular sized tires (maximum 10) that are off the rim, appliances, scrap metal furniture, any bagged trash, dried paints, and so on. Items that will not be accepted are: concrete/masonry, brush/vegetation, chemicals, batteries electronics, liquid paints and traction tires.
The Recycling and Sanitation Department provides service year round and will be at the White County Clean Up in order to assist in the success of the event.
“My team at The Recycling and Sanitation Department will come in on Saturday and help with the project that morning,” Searcy Sanitation Department Supervisor Daniel Clegg said. “We are very excited and looking forward to helping out our town in this joint effort.”
This event is open to all. It is also a great way for students of all ages to get involved.
“There are many ways to get involved. Students can volunteer to clean up a yard for the elderly, clean up a park, or pick up trash in a rural area,” Pulley said.
“I am excited for this opportunity to help others in the community and serve the elderly and whoever else is in need,” sophomore Braden Jarnagin said..
