The Bulldog Restaurant is actually located in Bald Knob, but the classic diner feel makes it a must-visit for Searcy residents, as well as for this series. At most, it’s a 15-minute drive from campus. If you go during the right season, you may able to get a slice of their special strawberry short cake, as well.
JP: Several weeks ago, in Round-Up #2, I mentioned that the Main Street Jumbo Burger fulfilled my innate desire for classic diner fare. Unfortunately, it can no longer do so. The Bulldog burger has set the bar beyond Main Street Cafe’s reach. The Bulldog burger is not gourmet; at least, it can hardly be classified in the same category as the Greek House burgers — many of you will enjoy these far more, as I do myself. Yet there is still something special about the Bulldog’s basic approach to burger-making, and I left feeling oddly sentimental for a burger that doesn’t rank at the top of my list.I give it a 7/10. This burger is worth the drive to Bald Knob, and for those of you with a particularly straightforward taste in burgers, it may just become your favorite.
Hunter: Visiting the Bulldog is an experience. They do a great job of creating the diner feel, especially with their prices – a half-pound double burger is only $4.39. Cheese is an extra 30 cents, and bacon just 45 cents. As far as the burger itself, it’s about as solid of a traditional burger as you can find, in a good way. Nothing about the burger is special, but everything is good. Particularly, the meat is fresh, juicy, and tasty. The cheese is melted into the beef, which is always a good mark. The bacon isn’t great, but they give you plenty of it. The burger is made so that every bite is enjoyable and tasty. It doesn’t quite beat out Whistlestop for best traditional burger, but it’s a good burger, and Bulldog may make for a better overall experience. With good flavor, good texture and good value, the Bulldog burger scores a 7.5/10.
Bottom Line:The Bulldog Restaurant offers a classic but very enjoyable burger. The beef is both well prepared and well cooked, and the price and location make it an enjoyable experience. Averaging our scores, the Bulldog burger scores a 7.25.
