If you are searching for a place to get connected and find ways to serve during the holidays, look no further. Here are some places to help out this holiday season.
The Sunshine School
The Sunshine School is a nonprofit school that serves students of all ages with developmental disabilities at no cost to the family. For Christmas, every student makes a list of Christmas wishes and the Sunshine School has volunteers give these gifts to the students at their Christmas Party. If you are interested in giving to a student, call the school at (501) 268–9227. They also love having help year-round — you can volunteer at events or go to Zaxby’s on the first Sunday of each month to support the Sunshine School.
The Humane Society of Searcy
Volunteers are always needed at the Humane Society to walk, feed and bathe the animals, and help in other ways around the shelter. Adoption is also a great way to help out. Even if you cannot have a pet in your dorm, you can sponsor an adoption to give the joy of a puppy to someone else for Christmas. Volunteers can help any day after 1 p.m. If you would rather not be directly involved with the animals, you can volunteer to help at Barkin’ Barn, a thrift shop that gives all proceeds to the Humane Society. The Barkin’ Barn depends on donations made by the community, so if you are cleaning out your closet, this is the perfect opportunity to donate it to a good cause. The Barkin’ Barn is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Pizza Ministry
The Pizza Ministry meets every Monday night to minister to people both physically and spiritually. Little Caesar’s donates pizza every week for the students to deliver to families that live in the trailer park behind College Church. The ministry is in need of volunteers to help pray and reach out to the families. They are also looking for more volunteers to be consistent mentors.
