The Harding chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America will be hosting an Organizations Fair on Monday, Sept. 2 in the Student Center to help promote academic and service organizations on campus.
PRSSA president, junior Landis Tindell, said he hopes that having a central location for the participating organizations will help inform the student body of what Harding has to offer.
“When an organization puts a flyer up, it can get lost among the sea of other flyers,” Tindell said. “By having an Organizations Fair, each organization can help promote themselves and recruit students.”
Tindell also hopes to recruit students for PRSSA during the Organizations Fair.
“With the experiences that we have and the trips that we take, I believe it is the closest thing you can get to the real world of public relations without having an internship or a job,” Tindell said.
Another organization that will be featured in the student center is the Relay for Life committee. Relay for Life executive director, junior Veronica Rodriquez, transferred to Harding in the spring of 2012 and immediately became involved in the organization where she was able to meet new people.
“Having the experience of getting to do Relay for Life here has been amazing,” Rodriquez said. “Being a member of the committee you spend a lot of time together each week planning your next moves, and since we are doing something for a cause that means so much to each of us, it makes our bond that much closer.”
Rodriquez believes that everyone has been effected by cancer in some way and hopes that during the Organizations Fair, anyone interested can come out and volunteer to be a part of the committee.
“Any way that people want to help out with, we are more than grateful for,” Rodriquez said.
Freshman Madie McGuire said that coming in, you usually always hear about Social Clubs and which one to join, but you don’t know of all of the other organizations offered.
“I think that it is going to be really great to finally get to know these organizations’ backgrounds and members personally before deciding to get involved in one,” McGuire said.
The Organizations Fair will be right after 9 a.m. chapel until 5 p.m. in the Student Center on Monday, Sept. 2.
