Senior Amy Littleton was given the Tiana Notice Leadership Award this summer by the Roosevelt Institute Campus Network at the Hyde Park national retreat. This is the first time a Harding student has received an award on behalf of the Roosevelt Institute.
Seven students were nominated for this award. The Tiana Notice award is named after one of the founders of the Roosevelt Institute who died tragically in February 2009. The award recognizes a student who displays work ethic to better Roosevelt Institute and its efforts to expand its network.
Every year, student leaders of the Roosevelt Institute join together at the Hyde Park Leadership Summit, taking place at the Franklin Roosevelt Library in Hyde Park, N.Y. ,where five awards are announced and presented, one of which is theTiana Notice.
Roosevelt Institute Campus Network is a student policy organization that encourages progressive ideals to promote change. Littleton first became involved with Roosevelt first semester of her freshman year.
“Roosevelt [Institute] has given me a vast community of like-minded passionate students here at Harding, as well as the nation at large,” Littleton said. “It has shaped my understanding of the political process and revolutionized the way I think about policy.”
Through the Roosevelt Institute, Littleton was offered two internships: one in Washington D.C. and the other in New York, N.Y. This past summer she worked under the New York office staff.
Littleton said the best part of her internship was getting “to see the Roosevelt Institute at large.” She was able to work with experts in economic policy and the Roosevelt legacy.
Littleton said Dr. Mark Elrod, faculty adviser for the Roosevelt chapter at Harding, influenced Littleton.
Right now Littleton is the co-president of the Harding chapter alongside junior, Daniel Burnett.
