As students approached the back of the Benson Auditorium this past weekend, they heard the sound of rustling candy wrappers and saw the movie screen glow drifting from the inflatable movie screen. The Student Association and “Celebrate: Kingdom” hosted a drive-in movie on Saturday, Sept. 11, during which they showed “Remember the Titans” to raise money for the Sunshine School. Many attended the drive-in movie behind the Benson Auditorium, SA President Steven Ramsey said, adding that the drive-in was a success.”We partnered with CAB to do a drive-in movie in the back of the Benson,” Ramsey said. “It was $5 [which bought students] the movie, popcorn and drinks.”Freshman Hannah Robison said the movie was her first experience at a drive-in.”I attended the movie because I have always wanted to go to a drive-in, but I’ve never had the opportunity,” Robison said. “‘Remember the Titans’ is also my favorite movie of all time. It means a great deal to me, and I was ecstatic when I found out it was being shown.”Robison said she thinks “Celebrate: Kingdom” will have everlasting significance.”I firmly believe that supporting these causes is important because we’re making a difference in people’s lives,” Robison said. “We’re no longer thinking of ourselves for once, but instead contributing to something much greater than us and of much more eternal significance.”Sophomore Shenoa Weeks decided to attend the movie because it supported two great causes.”I absolutely love the movie, and it seemed like a good way to spend a Saturday night,” Weeks said. “I also wanted to support the cause. ‘Celebrate: Kingdom’ and the Sunshine School are great ways to support this community and those in need.”Ramsey said he and the rest of the SA have done a lot to help the Sunshine School through “Celebrate: Kingdom,” which has raised $1,280.60 as of Monday.”The American Marketing Association has been working hard on how we can get the word out to the town and get business involved with that part of the fundraising,” Ramsey said. “We are in the middle of that component of the fundraising.”Ramsey said the “Celebrate: Kingdom” T-shirt sales have provided a significant amount of the fundraising for the Sunshine School.”We will probably sell shirts a couple days along the way,” Ramsey said. “The shirt sales have gone good. We have gone above our goal.”
