On April 1, Jeff and Donna Rhodes sold their coffee shop, The Underground Coffee House and Eatery, to Sean Hudkins, owner and operator of Zion Rock Gym.
The Rhodes’ worked out a deal for them to still own the Underground’s building and act in a landlord position. This change has brought one immediate change to the business: The name has changed from the Underground Coffee House and Eatery to the Underground CafĂ©. This change was mostly done for title and insurance reasons.
Along with the name being changed, a new logo, designed by employee Tate Pettyjohn, will be implemented soon. They hope to have the logo’s printed on T-shirts and aprons to sell.
There are also plans to change the inside of the building, Pettyjohn said.
“We are planning to remove the putt-putt golf course in the back and optimize the space for meeting rooms or a large space groups (and) churches can make use of,” Pettyjohn said. “The kids’ play room has also been cleaned out, but a decision has not been reached about what will fill the space.”
With the change in ownership being almost a month old, the new owners have come out with a few new menu items, including peanut butter cookies, German chocolate cake and Almond Twists.
“We are still re-evaluating the menu,” Pettyjohn said.
No changes will be made to the Zion Rock Gym, Pettyjohn said.
“We hope to increase the customer base significantly, which will help Zion as well,” Pettyjohn said. “Also, we are more free to combine discounts and special offers that include Underground menu items and rock climbing passes.”
