TheHarding UniversityBison basketball team beat theDelta StateStatesmen 100-88 in the Bison’s final home game of the season Thursday night at the Rhodes Field House in Searcy, Ark.
The Rhodes Field House was packed with fans, and the atmosphere in the stadium was pandemonium. Fans dressed in black lined the side lines and sat in the end zones to cheer on the Bisons to a victory on a night that recognized the seniors who played in their final home game for Harding.The Bisons are currently ranked 4th in theGulf South Conferencestandings, tied with Christian Brothers.In the game, the Bisons had a total of 36 rebounds as they scored 100 points on the Statesmen.SeniorTrent Morgancompleted five of 10 of his attempted shots, one of which was a three pointer. He also completed 14 of his 21 free throws. SeniorMatt Garnercompleted one of two of his shots and was not fouled during his time in the game.In the locker room at half time, coach Jeff Morgan said the team needed to pick up more rebounds, but that he was proud of the effort the players put forth in the first half and that they needed to keep it up in the second half.Morgan, who has played 116 games as a Bison and was second in all conference standings was emotional after the game, the last time he’ll play at Rhodes Field House in front of the home crowd. Morgan scored 25 of the 100 points in Thursday’s game.”We still have a lot of work to do, and a win on Saturday could get us a spot in the championships,” Morgan said. “I’m definitely going to look back on this and reflect on it.”Garner, a guard, was also reflective after the game.”I remember walking in here and thinking that this place was really cool and its a great atmosphere to play in,” Matt Garner said. “We played hard tonight and proved ourselves, I’m really going to miss this place.”
