Harding University students were thrilled as winter weather blanketed Searcy Monday, Feb. 8, delaying classes for two hours Monday and closing campus on Tuesday.
“It’s like a blizzard outside,” one student said.
Snow started falling early Monday morning and continued throughout the day, creating a blanket of white across northern and central Arkansas.
What started out as a chance of rain and snow mix led to a winter storm watch and turned into a winter storm warning Sunday night. By early Monday morning, enough snow had fallen to delay classes for two hours at Harding University. Many other schools canceled classes altogether.
The heavy snow that continued to fall made the campus look like the inside of a snow globe.

“It’s beautiful, and I love it,” junior Erin Lyons said.
Shrieks of joy and laughter could be heard all over the front lawn as students came out the play in the snow.
What makes this snow different from the snow of Jan. 29 is the precipitation itself. Instead of mostly ice, the snow fell in large, wet flakes that accumulated on the ground.
“This snow is perfect for snowball fighting, snowman building and sledding,” said one student describing the snow.
Large snowmen were built all over campus, but mini snowmen were seen as well. These were on the tops of any flat surfaces, such as the corners of the main walkway through the center of campus or on the tops of trash bins.
Other creations included uniquely shaped snow animals and small crosses made of snow.
Students were not the only ones smiling about the snow. Many trees had smiles made of snow on them as well.
Now, many students are hoping that the snowfall that is expected to continue through the night will get them out of classes on Tuesday. Stay updated by checkingHarding Pipeline.
