Former MCI vice president and chief audit executiveCynthia Cooperwill speak in the Benson Auditorium Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m as part of the American Studies Institute Distinguished Lecture Series.
- In 2002, Cooper was one of Time Magazine’s Persons of the Year in honor of her work in helping to expose the $3.8 billion WorldCom fraud, the largest incident of accounting fraud in U.S. history at the time.
- Her book, “Extraordinary Circumstances,” was published in 2008. It discusses her work as a corporate executive and her experiences at WorldCom.
- She became the first female inductee into theAICPAHall of Fame in 2004.
- Cooper has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Mississippi State University and a Master of Science in Accountancy from the University of Alabama.
- She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
Cooper will be speaking about the importance of being a strong, ethical leader.
