It’s all one big blur of homework and new faces for a lot of students atHarding Universityas visitation rolls by this week; but a faint light is seen at the end of the tunnel offering hope and relief – fall break.
Many students find themselves rushing to meet yet another club member, while juggling homework, friends and other curricular activities, all of which can lead to a very stressful visitation week. Most students, whether they are already in a club or just a potential pledge, find this week to be tiring and trying.
“Visitation week is brutal. Trying to meet as many Box members as I can, while trying to finish all my homework is exhausting. And on top of that I am in the musical; so what little time I have left after rehearsal is spent running all over campus and beyond,” said Harding Sophomore Riley Walling.
Walling’s story is echoed by dozens of students who all find this week a little overwhelming. Freshman Amber Moskow couldn’t agree more with Walling.
“With all the homework I have and also trying to meet all the girls in the club keeps me up until two or three in the morning; and then only getting three or four hours of sleep until I wake up at 6:30, is killing me,” said Moskow.
But relief is on the way as fall break sums up the harsh week that is visitation.
“Fall break couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. Right after visitation but right before midterms, I can get all the sleep I want, but with three days off I’ll be able to get all my studying done too,” said Moskow.
Fall break, being the first official day off for Harding students, gives many a chance to return home or plan some wild adventure normally impractical on only a two day weekend. Sophomore Milton Stewart left Harding last Thursday, eager to return to his home town in Memphis.
“The best part about being home is the home cooked meals, a bed I can fit in, and not having to worry about classes,” said Stewart.
Stewart is not alone in his feelings about being home and the relief it is to be away from campus and not worrying about the everyday drama that is sure to pile up. Most students feel the pressure of homework and the responsibilities that come with being a college student, whether they are in a club or not, fall break is a welcome site for all.
