“There’s a little Holy Spirit in here.”
At least that’s what Christy Burdett of Pratville, Ala., thought when her broom stood on its own in the middle of her consignment shop.
Evennational news networkscaught wind of the “phenomenon” and quickly made sure the rest of the nation knew about the South’s magic broom.
Last week, more than a month since Burdett made her discovery, the story got its second wind on the social networking site Facebook. Before long, statuses, wall posts, shared links and profile pictures all spoke of the mystery of the standing broom.
I found out about it when my friends’ mothers began enthusiastically telling me to “go make my broom stand alone,” which, knowing nothing about it, made absolutely no sense.
The broom hype even contributed to a little mischief when a few 50-somethings were reprimanded on the cleaning supplies aisle for standing all the brooms on end.
Burdett plans on making the broom an attraction in her store. If you’re not willing to drive to Prattville to see the cleaning utensil, walk to your broom closet and try for yourself.
Everyone else is doing it.
