Junior Bible and ministry major Daylan Moore is about to accomplish a goal he has had since coming to Harding, being a student speaker at Lectureship.
“I’ve wanted to do this the last couple of years,” Moore said. “When I got that email asking me if I would be willing to speak I was like, ‘this is what I’ve been waiting for’.”
Moore came into Harding as a kinesiology major and after preaching at a local congregation one Sunday, he realized Bible and ministry was where he needed to be. Moore was nominated to speak by his preaching professor, Dr. Phillip Thompson.
Moore had an internship in the summer of 2017 in Fairview Heights, Illinois. He was able to preach and work with various groups within the congregation, including an adult class. He feels this internship prepared him for Lectureship.
“I talked about the Holy Spirit from the book of Acts this summer for my internship,” Moore said. “All of those lessons were preparing me to go into the book of Romans.”
The theme for Lectureship this year is from the book of Romans, so Moore decided to base his lesson off of Romans 8. The title of his lesson is “Walking in Step with the Spirit.” He will be discussing what it means and what it looks like to walk in step with God’s spirit every day. Moore has been preparing this lesson throughout the summer and feels confident and ready.
“My favorite part of my lesson is my last point,” Moore said. “I will be talking about how the spirit of God in us is the mark of a new identity. . . . because we have God’s spirit and that’s our new identity, we have an obligation to live for him and we are no longer bound to things that have kept us chained up.”
Moore will be speaking on the last day of Lectureship, Wednesday Sept 27th at 4 p.m. in McInteer room 125.
