“Searcy city leaders are trying to figure out what to do after voters said no to a one-cent sales tax earlier this month.
City leaders had hoped the additional funding would cover the costs of replacing older equipment and upgrade services for departments like sanitation, law enforcement, and the fire department.
The city council held a special meeting earlier today to decide how to best move forward and still keep up the quality of these services that citizens expect.
Mayor kyle osborne says the election outcome was extremely disappointing and detrimental to the city budget.
One proposal is to better publicize the city’s needs with the public and allow citizens to voice their ideas for how to pay for necessary items, then present those ideas before voters in another special election.
In other business today, the city council decided to buy two acres of property adjacent to the city sports complex to allow for future expansion.”
