{"id":9745,"date":"2017-11-09T16:17:32","date_gmt":"2017-11-09T22:17:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=9745"},"modified":"2017-11-09T16:17:32","modified_gmt":"2017-11-09T22:17:32","slug":"pro-hosts-second-annual-quidditch-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2017\/11\/09\/pro-hosts-second-annual-quidditch-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"PRO Hosts Second Annual Quidditch Tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Public Relations Organization (PRO), is hosting its second Quidditch tournament fundraiser tomorrow on the Front Lawn from noon to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>PRO is an academic organization within the Department of Communication that allows students to participate in projects and trips in order to gain experience and knowledge about their future fields.<\/p>\n<p>Junior Kendall Carwile, president of PRO, helped with last spring\u2019s event and expects this semester\u2019s to be even better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was pretty hot when we did it last year,\u201d Carwile said. \u201cSo this year I\u2019m hoping that it\u2019s cooler and makes it more like the Quidditch from the movies where everybody is all bundled up and drinking hot drinks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senior Alyse Yates, PRO public relations director, is managing the concessions this year.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9750\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9750\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9750\" src=\"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/KF-4765-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/KF-4765-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/KF-4765-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/KF-4765-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/KF-4765-1170x780.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/KF-4765-585x390.jpg 585w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/KF-4765.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-9750\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Kazu Fujisawa<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re able to communicate with teachers, organize and plan this event, and get organizations and clubs to come together,\u201d Yates said. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot better than doing some internal fundraiser, doing something that is campus-wide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Junior Parker Samuel, PRO public relations director, puts the teams into the tournament bracket and prepares them for playing the game. He said the timing of the tournament after club week will influence the development of club teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that it would be awesome if new members of social clubs could sign up,\u201d Samuel said. \u201cLast year, there were several club teams. Generally, they did really well because they already knew each other, so they can work together as a team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While those who want to play must sign up, anyone is welcome to watch, buy concessions and cheer for their peers. It\u2019s not a time to be serious and get all crazy and competitive. You can be competitive, and you can want to win. But it\u2019s mostly about having fun and getting to experience a little bit of magic in your everyday life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The money raised on Saturday will benefit PRO by funding their annual spring trip to meet professionals in communications.
