With the plethora of available gaming options, there are few available mediums that provide cross-platform communication for gamers. A Harding Discord server is now available for download on PC, Mac and mobile devices. Discord allows members to create or join groups and communicate through voice or text chat.<\/p>\n

Freshman Charles \u201cEddie\u201d Gyger created the Harding Discord server when he saw the need for a connection between gamers on campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I came to Harding, I was kind of surprised that something like this didn\u2019t already exist,\u201d Gyger said. \u201cWhenever I looked into di erent organiza- tions on campus, nothing that I saw really catered to that, so I decided to start a server for Harding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gyger\u2019s server gained about 100 members three weeks after its creation. He has been advertising the server to get more people to join and connect through voice or text channels based on common games.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the short term goal is just to connect people and to kind of start getting a community going, and to make an opportunity for people who don\u2019t really interact much on campus to interact,\u201d Gyger said. \u201cLong term, I\u2019d like to get it well-known enough that when the new freshman class comes in, they know that that\u2019s an opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Senior Ean Myers created a server for men\u2019s social club Knights after discovering Discord.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can use it while doing anything on your computer, so a lot of guys just get on there, and they\u2019ll all be doing homework and want to talk about what they\u2019re doing,\u201d Myers said. \u201cWe do use it to play games as well, so it\u2019s a multifaceted thing that we use where people get on there to help each other with homework, catch up, or it\u2019s a good way to make plans too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Myers described Discord as a form of social media that allows people to meet through the servers on voice channels or chats.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsing it has been an interest- ing way to meet people I didn\u2019t even know on campus,\u201d Myers said. \u201c e way to communicate is a lot more streamlined, I would say, because you don\u2019t have to wait for someone to respond or call them.\u201d<\/p>\n
