The Lady Bisons soccer team defeated Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWSOSU) 4-0 on Thursday, Sept. 29, and Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) 2-0, on Saturday, Oct. 1.<\/p>\n
Sophomore midfielder Bethany Sutherland scored two goals on Thursday and one on Saturday, bringing her total to eight goals this season.<\/p>\n
“I played all right on Thursday, but nowhere near my full potential,” Bethany Sutherland said. “On Saturday, I did better in the second half than I did in the first half because I read the other team better. Northwestern Oklahoma held back more, but they went forward when the opportunity arose. Southwestern Oklahoma was a good team with two potential threats up top, while the defensive held back.”<\/p>\n
Bethany Sutherland is the younger sister of senior Melita Sutherland, who also plays for the Lady Bisons.<\/p>\n
“Melita is a great athlete,” Bethany Sutherland said. “She did an amazing job in both games with her killer defense . . . creating chances up top from her diagonal balls.” <\/p>\n
Melita Sutherland made a free kick to junior Rachel Bacon to assist the final goal of Thursday’s game against NWOSU.<\/p>\n
“I did get an assist on a free kick right by the corner flag,” Melita Sutherland said. “On Thursday I got up in the attack and sent some crosses in the 18-yard box. I also got back on defense and didn’t let them have any opportunities to score. Bethany played very well on both Thursday and Saturday. On Thursday she (Bethany Sutherland) scored two goals that helped clinch our win.” <\/p>\n
During the first half of Thursday night’s games against NWOSU the Lady Bisons scored four goals.<\/p>\n
“We possessed around the other team and kept them from scoring,” Melita Sutherland said. “Saturday was a tough game, but we really stepped up and defended well as a team. I had to stay back and defend more than I usually do because the opposing team was more of a threat. I did get in the attack just a little bit and had an opportunity to score on a free kick, but the goalie had a good save. Bethany scored a goal on Saturday, which gave us some breathing room. She is an incredible asset to our team.”<\/p>\n
Senior forward Averie Albright attempted two of nineteen shots during Saturday’s game.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
“We played good, but we could have played better,” Albright said. “We could have attacked better on offense. Bethany and Amelia [Grizzell] both had very good games, so did our goal keeper Jess [Woessner].
