The women’s softball team played a doubleheader at home against Arkansas Tech on Tuesday, March 29. Arkansas Tech is ranked fourth in the nation. The Lady Bison’s barely lost both games. The first game’s score was 4-3, and the second game’s score was 8-6.
\nArkansas Tech had strong starts in both games, scoring five runs in the first inning of the first game and scoring six runs in the first inning of the second game.
\nThe Lady Bison’s fought back in both games. Freshman Peyton Mills scored a two run home run in the first game and had two hits in the second game. Freshman Alexis Lawellin also had a strong first game, with two hits.
\n The Lady Bison’s scored five runs in the fifth inning of the second game. The tying run was called out at home plate.
\nHead Coach Phil Berry said the ladies played like “warriors.” He said he is proud of the way they fought back and did not stop competing. Berry said they just need to work on generating offense in the beginnings of games.
\nArkansas Tech is the highest ranked team the Lady Bison’s will play this season.
\nKinsey Beck, who plays second base, said they need to focus on the process of winning, not the outcome. “We need to concentrate on playing each pitch.”
\nMollie Mitchell, the assistant coach, said they had rough first innings, but they knew it was going to be a hard opponent.
\n“If we stick to our game plan, regardless of the score, we can win against anyone,” said Mitchell.
\nThere are 18 more regular season games for the softball team. They will face Arkansas Tech again on April 12 for another tough doubleheader.
\nThe Lady Bison’s are ranked fourth in The Great American Conference and travel to Magnolia, Arkansas, to take on Southern Arkansas this weekend.
