Swipe4Searcy will take its business from the cafeteria to the Children’s Homes campus for its next event.<\/p>\n
According to sophomores Quentin Parker and Curt Baker, the plan is for Harding students to share a meal with kids from the Children’s Homes. Along with dinner, the students are encouraged to strike up conversations with the kids.<\/p>\n
Parker hopes to see a big response from the students to help make the night a success. There are around 50 kids at the Children’s Homes, but Parker wants a bigger number of students.<\/p>\n
“The vision is to have around 100 Harding students come and share a meal with kids and hang around after for some fun games to help interact with them,” Parker said.<\/p>\n
Aramark will work with Baker and Parker to provide meals for the event. Parker said he will need 110-120 students to swipe to cover the amount of food made.<\/p>\n
Baker said the logistics of transporting the boxes to the campus has not been worked out yet.<\/p>\n
According to Parker, the idea to work with the Children’s Homes came after talking Andrew Baker, the director of the Mitchell Center for Leadership and Ministry.<\/p>\n
“We sat in a room and threw around some ideas concerning sharing a meal with kids, and when the Children’s Homes came up, I thought Harding students would jump on that,” Parker said.<\/p>\n
Baker said he hopes this event will move students to realize they can make a difference in the community.<\/p>\n
“(Students) realizing that there’s a Children’s Homes here may spark them to plan a further event for the kids, the snowball effect could be awesome,” Baker said.<\/p>\n
There is not a scheduled date for the event yet, but Parker hopes for it to happen soon.<\/p>\n
