{"id":5849,"date":"2015-11-19T22:56:55","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T15:22:01","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T06:00:00","slug":"lady-bisons-cross-country-to-compete-in-ncaa-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2015\/11\/19\/lady-bisons-cross-country-to-compete-in-ncaa-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"Lady Bisons cross country to compete in NCAA tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a result of its top-5 finish at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Central Region Championships, the Lady Bisons cross-country team will compete at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21, for the first time since 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Steve Guymon said he looks forward to seeing the team&#8217;s two top runners, seniors Ewa Zaborowska and Kelsey Taylor, end their cross-country careers on a high note.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After the way they&#8217;ve led these past few years, to have given us an opportunity to go to nationals as a team is what I&#8217;m most excited about,&#8221; Guymon said. &#8220;I want them to enjoy it and savor the moment, because it&#8217;s something they will remember for the rest of their life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Taylor said she is looking forward to the experience, especially since it will come in her final year as a Lady Bison.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m just excited to go to nationals.&#8221; Taylor said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve had that goal for a while. It makes it even more rewarding being a senior.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although Taylor&#8217;s cross-country career will end, she said she will continue running with the track team in the spring.<\/p>\n<p>For Zaborowska, however, the NCAA Championships will mark the final race of her career, as she will graduate in December. Taylor acknowledged the impact Zaborowska has had on the cross-country and track teams.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She&#8217;s one of the most decorated athletes at Harding,&#8221; Taylor said. &#8220;She&#8217;s determined, self-disciplined, and she&#8217;s been a blessing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Guymon echoed Taylor&#8217;s sentiment regarding Zaborowksa&#8217;s impact.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s no way I could thank (Zaborowska) enough for the way she&#8217;s helped our program,&#8221; Guymon said.<\/p>\n<p>Zaborowska will look to finish in the top 40, which would earn her NCAA All-America honors for the second time in her career.<\/p>\n<p>According to Guymon, the team hopes to finish in the top 20, a goal he believes is attainable.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;ve been a top-20 team all year,&#8221; Guymon said. &#8220;I just want them to go out there relaxed and run the best race they can.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Taylor said racing against Division I schools at the Chile Pepper Festival earlier this season has prepared the team for tougher competition at the NCAA Championships.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve seen the best runners, so nothing will be a huge shock or anything,&#8221; Taylor said. &#8220;We already had this confidence going into regionals, so we&#8217;re ready for the challenge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The meet will begin at noon on Saturday, Nov. 21 in Joplin, Missouri.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As a result of its top-5 finish at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Central Region Championships, the Lady Bisons cross-country team will compete at the NCAA Division II National&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":14636,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[23],"tags":[268],"class_list":["post-5849","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-sports","tag-hurricane-florence"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5849","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/14636"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=5849"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5849\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5849"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5849"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5849"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
