Intramural volleyball started Sept. 2 but the spotlight this year is on the school’s first coed teams.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Intramural Director Tom Ritchie said he is excited to launch this new “experimental team” for students.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

According to Ritchie, the coed teams are geared toward a group of about 30 men and women who regularly play volleyball in the Ganus Athletic Center. He is expecting between four and six coed teams to participate. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

Students are also excited about the opportunity. Junior Hannah March said that despite being busy, she is excited to play intramural volleyball this year because it is going to be a great way to stay in touch with her Zambia group. The 2014 Harding in Zambia group is planning to form two teams: “Hakuna Matata” and “Zambia Jams.” <\/o:p><\/p>\n

Ritchie said one of the potential problems with the coed teams is the net height. The net will be set at the same height as it is for men’s volleyball, which is about eight inches taller than it is for women’s volleyball. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

Another highlight for intramural volleyball is the faculty team. Ritchie said the team has done well in the past, and he expects this year to be no different.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Junior Brandon Helms, who played on a student team last year, also spoke to the quality of the faculty team.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

“We were undefeated last year until we ran into the best team we had played, the faculty,” Helms said. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

Intramural volleyball games are held on Monday and Wednesday nights and will be played until Sept. 28. The coed season will run from Oct. 5 to Oct. 26. <\/o:p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
