Using nationally recognized Giving Tuesday, Dec. 2, as a springboard, the Advancement Office is organizing a way to give back to Harding called “24k in a Day.”<\/p>\n
According to Emily Smith, program associate for The Harding Fund, the purpose of the day is to unite the Harding community by encouraging people to donate and reach a goal of $24,000 in one day. This includes students, faculty and alumni.<\/p>\n
“All donations will go toward The Harding Fund, designed to provide scholarship assistance and support to all academic departments,” Smith said. “Our goal is to make this giving day an annual fall event, creating a culture of giving back while students are still on campus.”<\/p>\n
All donations will take place online with a minimum donation of $10, according to Smith. Students who donate will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 Amazon gift card.<\/p>\n
Smith said that donors may give in honor of others and they are encouraged to use social media to share, using the hashtag #HardingUnites.<\/p>\n
Young alumni associate Sarah Bobo is also helping to plan and coordinate the event. She said it is important to remember that 1\/3 of tuition at Harding is paid for by donors. According to Bobo, there are already current students who give back to Harding.<\/p>\n
“We just want to get the students and everyone in a giving spirit,” Bobo said. “This is a time to give back.”<\/p>\n
In the week leading up to “24k in a Day” there will be contests going on through social media: Instagram @generationhu, Twitter @hardingpc and on Facebook by liking the Harding President’s Council page.
