{"id":3580,"date":"2010-04-05T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T15:21:55","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T06:00:00","slug":"a-look-at-the-2010-sa-presidential-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2010\/04\/05\/a-look-at-the-2010-sa-presidential-candidates\/","title":{"rendered":"A look at the 2010 SA presidential candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Gina Cielo<\/p>\n<p>Get to know more about each Student Association presidential candidates by reading their opinions expressed at an open forum held in the Heritage Auditorium Monday, April 5.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h1><strong>Nik Arezina<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>Hometown<\/strong>: Houston, Texas<strong>Classification<\/strong>: Senior (3rd year)<strong>Major<\/strong>: Management Information Systems<strong>Minor<\/strong>: Spanish<strong>Campaign<\/strong><strong>slogan<\/strong>: Purpose<strong>Campaign objectives<\/strong>: Making the SA more accessible to studentbody; providing a more visible SA suggestion box; making studentsaware of SA meetings; administering a student vote for favoritemeal to be served once a week in caf or student center<strong>Strengths<\/strong>: Leadership experience \u2014 current vice president of SA; member of finance committee; member of Aramark committee. Arezina says most importantly he focuses on the Lord, by getting heart right and drawing near to God in all situations.<strong>Weakness<\/strong>: Lack of years. Arezina says the fact that he is a third-year senior could prove to be a weakness to the other two seniors.<strong>Plans to accomplish campaign objectives<\/strong>: Use present relationships with Aramark employees and finance leaders on campus.<strong>Plans to promote school spirit<\/strong>: Institute a committee specific to sports; raise awareness and advertise sporting events; host more theme nights.<strong>Closing remark<\/strong>: &#8220;We are so diverse and it&#8217;s such a blessing to realize that; to realize where people are coming from, to think on a global scale and to see what experiences they have had. As an SA we can help them out, get them involved and make them feel at home here.&#8221;<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h1><strong>John Dollen<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>Hometown<\/strong>: Omaha, Neb.<strong>Classification<\/strong>: Senior<strong>Major<\/strong>: Finance and Economics<strong>Campaign focus<\/strong>: Unification<strong>Campaign objectives<\/strong>: Unifying the student body; fosteringrelationships amoing people with many different backgrounds andexperiences.&#8221;We are at a loss if we dont take advantage of it (unification) andwe will have so much to gain if we do,&#8221; Dollen said.<strong>Strengths<\/strong>: Leadership experience \u2014 Campus Activities Board director; RA in Cone Hall;president of Kyodai. Dollen says he knows how to make decisions for a group and make things happen.<strong>Weakness<\/strong>: Learning to say no to certain activities so he can fully commit himself to be the SA president.<strong>Plans to accomplish campaign objectives<\/strong>: Surround himself with good people and use current relationships.<strong>Plans to promote school spirit<\/strong>: Increase attendence at sporting events; host pep rallies; work with SA and CAB to create an enviroment that everyone appreciates.<strong>Closing remark<\/strong>: &#8220;As president I would love to see the aspects of academic, sports and social life become more improved.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Steven Ramsey<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>Hometown<\/strong>: Jonesboro, Ark.<strong>Classification<\/strong>: Senior<strong>Major<\/strong>: Finance<strong>Campaign focus<\/strong>: Fun<strong>Goal of campaign<\/strong>: Setting up project groups consisting of four to 10people. Groups work on service projects that they are passionateabout. Also, improving and promoting lectureship and chapel.&#8221;The more people that are involved in the SA, the less of theburden on each person to get things done,&#8221; Ramsey said. &#8220;I wantpeople to be involved as much as they want.&#8221;<strong>Strengths<\/strong>: Reads alot, loves being around people and wants students to be involved. Ramsey says reading gives him a more well-rounded perspective.<strong>Weakness<\/strong>: Inexperience in the SA.<strong>Plans to accomplish campaign objectives<\/strong>: Using students to participate in small service groups that will have a large impact on situations around campus.<strong>Plans to promote school spirit<\/strong>: Continue and ignite Rhodes Rowdies; find ways to get more people involved in sporting events; dedicate a night to student fellowship.<strong>Closing remark<\/strong>: &#8220;We can make things happen.
