{"id":3461,"date":"2010-03-03T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T15:21:55","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T06:00:00","slug":"zion-to-host-annual-climbing-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2010\/03\/03\/zion-to-host-annual-climbing-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Zion to host annual climbing competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Alexandra McClain<\/p>\n<p>The Zion Climbing Center is hosting it&#8217;s fifth annual bouldering competition Sat., March 27.    <\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s theme is &#8220;The Comp Formerly Known As\u2026&#8221; as part of a rebranding campaign from Zion Rock Gym to the center&#8217;s new official name, the Zion Climbing Center.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of the competition is $30 for preregistration or $40 the day of. With the price of registration, competitors will receive a meal and a T-shirt.<\/p>\n<p>The competition is open to climbers age 12 and up and is divided into classifications based on both age and skill.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Comps are such a blast! I love coming in and seeing new holds, routes, and meeting new climbers,&#8221; Emily Hudkins, chairperson of Zion&#8217;s board of directors. &#8220;The competition is fun and laid back, but definitely challenging as well. It&#8217;s just an awesome time all around.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Along with the new name, Zion Climbing Center is also in the process of becoming a non-profit organization. The center is partnering with the Downtown Church of Christ program Impact 360 to form the Searcy Youth Neighborhood Community (SYNC) After School program.<\/p>\n<p>Registration is now open at the climbing center, located in The Underground Coffee House.
