On Saturday, April 20, the women’s track and field team competed at the Hendrix Invitational in Conway, Ark., along with eight other schools. Sophomore Shana Holmes placed first in the 400-meters and freshman Kelsey Taylor placed first in the 800.<\/p>\n
Head track coach Steve Guymon said the women did well as a team and several achieved personal best times or marks in their events.<\/p>\n
Freshman Tammy Kim, who is usually a distance runner, has been running the 400 the past few meets but at the Hendrix Invitational she ran in the 200.<\/p>\n
Kim said she wishes her time would have been better, but is happy that she even got to run the 200 at the invitational.<\/p>\n
“I personally like switching it up a bit,” Kim said. “It is fun to do the longer runs, but doing the sprints is just different to make running even more exciting.”<\/p>\n
This season is coming to a close, but freshman Lydia Gordon said they are still getting ready for their next conference meet by training hard and setting goals for themselves.<\/p>\n
“We do not set our goals too high,” Gordon said. “Just high enough so we can meet it and get better as we go along.”<\/p>\n
According to Guymon, the girls have achieved their goals and have set five new school records just this season. <\/p>\n
“Each meet, their performances improve,” Guymon said. “Performances aside, they are an extremely close team and are a joy to work with.”<\/p>\n
Gordon also said she felt close with her teammates.<\/p>\n
“My favorite thing about running track, especially here at Harding, is the team itself,” Gordon said. “Everyone is so supportive and I know I can count on them to be there for me, not only on the track, but outside of track as well.” <\/p>\n
Kim said that she feels blessed to be a part of such a great team full of caring coaches.<\/p>\n
“Even though we have a lot of people on the team, we still manage to get to know everyone, have fun and run for God,” Kim said.<\/p>\n
The women’s track and field team will go against Arkansas State on Saturday, April 27. May 2 \u2013 4 they will compete at the Lone Star Conference for their final meet of the season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
