For Brackett Library’s READ poster series, Dr. Dan and Cindee Stockstill selected two books: “The Sacred Romance,” by Brent Curtis and John Eldridge and “Sacred Marriage,” by Gary Thomas. Their selections, according to Cindee Stockstill, were intentionally directed toward Valentine’s Day.<\/p>\n
“It worked well with February,” Cindee Stockstill said. “We thought, \u2018It’s Valentine’s Day, let’s do something about romance or marriage.'”<\/p>\n
“Sacred Marriage,” which was Cindee Stockstill’s choice, is a guide to help couples work through the trials of marriage.<\/p>\n
“\u2018Sacred Marriage’ is about how God uses marriage to discipline us and make us better,” Cindee Stockstill said. “You learn a lot of patience by being married. You learn to have a servant heart. Even when things aren’t always rosy, marriage builds character and teaches us to forgive.”<\/p>\n
Cindee Stockstill recommends “Sacred Marriage” to couples who have been married or seriously dating for some time.<\/p>\n
“It’s great for people who’ve been married for a while and can say, \u2018Yeah, marriage is tough, but God’s using it to mold me into a better person,'” Cindee Stockstill said.<\/p>\n
Cindee Stockstill also said “Sacred Marriage” has been beneficial to her and her husband’s own marriage.<\/p>\n
“It’s helped us to appreciate the hard times for what they can be used for,” Cindee Stockstill said.<\/p>\n
“The Sacred Romance” was Dan Stockstill’s selection and focuses not on one’s relationship with a significant other, but with Jesus.<\/p>\n
“\u2018The Sacred Romance’ has to do with coming to know the heart of Jesus and falling in love with Him,” Cindee Stockstill explained. “It’s about your relationship with Christ.”<\/p>\n
“(\u2018The Sacred Romance’) would be a good book to read before you get into a relationship, and \u2018Sacred Marriage’ would be better after you’ve been in a relationship for a while,” Cindee Stockstill said.<\/p>\n
