This semester, chapel has introduced a new series focusing on the seven \u201cI Am\u201d statements found in the Gospel of John. Guest speakers such as Dr. Monte Cox, Dr. Carl Williams, and Professor Grant Fitzhugh have each expanded on these statements which highlight the identity of Jesus Christ. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus describes himself with these seven statements throughout the book of John, each revealing a unique aspect of his nature. Throughout John, Jesus refers to himself as \u201cthe bread of life,\u201d \u201cthe light of the world,\u201d \u201cthe door of the sheep,\u201d \u201cthe good shepherd,\u201d \u201cthe resurrection and the life,\u201d \u201cthe way, the truth, and the life,\u201d and \u201cthe true vine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freshman Samuel Haviland has appreciated the structure and message of the series. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think that the \u201cI Am\u201d series has been productive and I\u2019ve enjoyed it,\u201d said Haviland. \u201cI would like more series like it, or even a series going through a specific book of the Bible like 1 John, Acts, or Romans.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haviland has also noted the series\u2019 relevance to students already engaged in the daily chapel program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s in the chapel coordinators\u2019 best interest to appeal to those who are already interested,\u201d said Haviland. \u201cI think the \u2018I Am\u2019 series does a good job of giving to the people who are trying to receive from it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freshman Carmen Campbell shared her thoughts on the series\u2019 theme and impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think the overall concept of the \u2018I Am\u2019 statements traces back to the idea of abiding and how that looks in different circumstances,\u201d said Campbell. \u201cI like this series because you get to walk out of chapel with a morning devo and it is refreshing to your soul. I think another series like this would be a great addition to the weekly chapel rotation in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freshman Ava Bernard said she particularly enjoyed the consistency of the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI really like the \u2018I Am\u2019 Series because it\u2019s cohesive and it\u2019s simple,\u201d said Bernard. \u201cI want to be able to go to chapel and read the Bible and hear someone preach. I think it\u2019s a good time to hear more about the Word and learn.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bernard also appreciated how the series has reinforced what she has studied in her daily Bible classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nice being a freshman who just learned about all the Gospels and seeing that content represented in chapel,\u201d said Bernard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the semester progresses, the \u201cI Am\u201d series will continue to cover the remainder of the seven statements found in the book of John.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
