If adoption is not for you but you’re looking for an organization to give back to, the Humane Society is a cause that will touch your heart, knowing that your support helps provide a chance for animals in need. They foster dogs and cats from all ages. The organization is seeking individuals who are capable of providing lifelong homes for these pets. Donations are welcomed as well, for those who would like to support the shelter’s efforts in the community.

The adoption process at the shelter involves a few simple steps. You must be 21 and first fill out an adoption application. To be considered, individuals need to be pre-approved. Once approved, adopters can visit the shelter to meet a new potential pet. The adoption paperwork takes around 15 minutes to complete.

The shelter also accepts donations to help care for the animals and maintain its operations. Donations that are always needed include dog food, cleaning supplies, toys and monetary contributions. Each gift, big or small, is essential in providing comfort and care for the animals waiting to find a loving family.

Pam Moorhead, a representative from the Humane Society, emphasized the importance of adopting with responsibility.

“Adoption is a lifetime commitment,” she said. Having seen many pets be adopted and dropped back off, she encourages each person considering bringing home an animal to “be sure you’re ready for the responsibility, as pets are a lifelong commitment, and they deserve a stable, loving home where they can thrive.”

Harding University student Nate Justice has dedicated about 2 years to helping the local humane society, caring for animals in need.

“I enjoy working at the humane society because I love animals, and there are plenty of them there that need taking care of! Animals come and go a lot, but you get to form a little bit of a relationship with them all while they are there,” Justice said. There is always room for giving back and this organization is one that offers a better chance at life for animals in need of a home.

The Humane Society continues to serve as a vital resource for animals in need. For those interested in adopting or donating, please visit the shelter to learn more about the animals available and how you can help!

The Humane Society of Searcy, Arkansas is currently home to around 60 animals in need of loving homes.
