{"id":20086,"date":"2024-11-15T00:38:07","date_gmt":"2024-11-15T06:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=20086"},"modified":"2024-11-15T00:38:07","modified_gmt":"2024-11-15T06:38:07","slug":"vibe-to-hold-vendor-fair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2024\/11\/15\/vibe-to-hold-vendor-fair\/","title":{"rendered":"Vibe to hold Vendor Fair"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Maggie Samples<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A vintage clothing store downtown is holding a vendor fair, showcasing small business and artists in the area Nov. 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. The fair will serve as a follow up to a block party held by Vibe Vintage Clothing during the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kevin and Lisa Douglas, the owners of Vibe, hope the store can continue to grow and serve the community of Searcy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dWe love the downtown scene,\u201d Lisa Douglas said. \u201cWe&#8217;re just trying to figure out different ways to make it grow down here, so that everybody has something to do. I grew up here. I want [students] to have things to do and it&#8217;s always good to shop local, support local.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Douglas said the goals of events like this fair are building community and networking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When finding vendors for the fair, Douglas said she was looking for small businesses that share Vibe\u2019s love for vintage things and thrifting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dIt\u2019s a whole community,\u201d Douglas said. \u201cI just love that and to let other people have an opportunity to show their avenue of expression. Because a lot of times that\u2019s what it is \u2014 it\u2019s just their creative side.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Douglas said the community can look forward to another Vibe hosted block party in the spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior Gillian Hinkley runs a pottery business, and she decided to join the vendor fair after seeing it on Instagram and with encouragement from friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dI always have so much fun doing markets whether they are at Harding, in Little Rock, or in Searcy,\u201d Hinkley said. \u201cHowever, it\u2019s always a little extra special when it is local, and I get so much joy out of sharing my art and my little business with the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hinkley encouraged other artists to start their own businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dGive it a shot,\u201d Hinkley said. \u201cIt\u2019s intimidating, but so worth it and I promise people want to see what you do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Junior Mikayla Jones sells ceramics through her business, Mayhouse. Jones got connected with the Vibe vendor fair through Instagram and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dI did my first market during homecoming, and it was so exciting to see people find things they like,\u201d Jones said. \u201cI still get giddy every time I see someone drinking from one of my cups or wearing my necklaces; it\u2019s so exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jones said this fair offers her learning opportunities and will help her continue to invest in Mayhouse and learn new things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vibe is located between Soda Jerk and Beyond Boundaries.
