{"id":19007,"date":"2023-10-26T23:28:03","date_gmt":"2023-10-27T05:28:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=19007"},"modified":"2023-10-26T23:28:03","modified_gmt":"2023-10-27T05:28:03","slug":"harding-organizations-offer-halloween-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2023\/10\/26\/harding-organizations-offer-halloween-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Harding organizations offer Halloween events"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Written by Emma Field \/\/ Graphic by Makayla McDonald<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students have been able to participate in a variety of events on campus to celebrate Halloween and the fall season, including Fall Bash, Tunnel Tours and Costume Corn Hole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) hosted \u201cFall Bash\u201d for the week of Oct. 22-27. The organization held events every day, and dinner was provided each night. There was no cost, and all Harding students were encouraged to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fall Bash gave students the opportunity to participate in activities throughout the week. Various organizations across campus came together to plan the events and provide free food. This was the third year Fall Bash was offered to students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students made various dishes with HEAL and ate them together in state-of-the-art kitchens Oct. 22. The event happened in the Olen Hendrix building, which has 12 mini kitchens.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assistant professor of kinesiology Britney Finley said this was a great opportunity for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a great activity for students who want to cook because we provide the ingredients and recipes,\u201d Finley said. \u201cThere is room for 12 people in each kitchen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later that evening, Harding aquatics director J.D. Yingling taught students how to paddleboard in the Harding pool.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Mike and Lisa Williams hosted cereal night at their house Oct. 23. Students enjoyed breakfast for dinner with various brands of cereal. Later in the evening, the Black Student Association and Student Government Association hosted \u201cPainting with a Twist\u201d with a painting tutorial.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finley hosted a Mexican dinner at her house Oct. 24. Following dinner, students could participate in battlefield laser tag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students ate pizza and participated in a service project with Dr. Morris Oct. 25. They partnered with The Table, which is a food pantry, and played games with the Honors College in the Lee Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students participated in a tailgate for the volleyball game between the Lee building and the Rhodes-Reaves Field House Oct. 26. After the volleyball game, students played board games in the library. Finley said Dr. Andrea Bishop, director of the center for leadership and development, helped host this event.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Oct. 27, students made their own brick oven pizzas, and trivia prizes were given out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior McKenzie Paden, president of the Harding University chapter of the American Chemical Society (HUACS), helped host this year\u2019s \u201cTunnel Tours.\u201d The tunnels underneath the science building were set up with decorations to resemble a haunted tour. The tours were held Friday, Oct. 20 from 6-11 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 21 from 6-10 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vice president Elise Skinner has been a member of HUACS for three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a pivotal event for the chemistry club since before I was a member,\u201d Skinner said. \u201cIt serves as a way to fundraise for both ourselves and our community and offer the student body a relatively uncommon experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tickets were $5.00 per person, but children six years and younger received free admission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Costume Corn Hole tournament will be held on the Front Lawn starting at 5 p.m. Oct. 31. The cost is $2.00 per team, and participants must register with a partner before Halloween. Participants can pay via Venmo, Cashapp or in person on the day of the event.
