{"id":18356,"date":"2023-04-13T15:38:54","date_gmt":"2023-04-13T21:38:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=18356"},"modified":"2023-04-13T15:38:55","modified_gmt":"2023-04-13T21:38:55","slug":"womens-social-clubs-host-delta-dancing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2023\/04\/13\/womens-social-clubs-host-delta-dancing\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s social clubs host &#8216;Delta Dancing&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Written by Sophie Thibodeaux <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of women\u2019s social clubs Phi Kappa Delta (PKD) and Delta Gamma Rho (DGR) held a function called \u201cDelta Dancing,\u201d Tuesday, April 11, where participants learned and practiced different line dances together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior DGR activities director Janae Pierson discussed how the idea for \u201cDelta Dancing\u201d came about and the creative minds behind it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDGR has been doing this ballet class once a week, and then that has kind of evolved into weekly yoga classes and ballet classes,\u201d Pierson said. \u201cEveryone has been on this kick of using our resources within the club, having people who are knowledgeable about certain hobbies teach everyone else in a way that\u2019s fun and free and easy to participate in.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior PKD marketing director Bailey Ridenour was the one to reach out to Pierson to discuss her idea for a line dancing class with DGR. She wanted everyone to spend a few hours in mirror room C207 in the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Music and Communication, learning new dances and techniques from traditional Western line dancing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior DGR president Lori Cosby said this event was a spin-off of a ballet class one of their club members was already teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of our freshmen, Reed Wilson, had started this ballet class, so it was kind of a spin-off of that,\u201d Cosby said. \u201cShe just started once a week teaching ballet class, and she\u2019s inviting not just DGR people, but a bunch of other people to come to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sophomore PKD activities director Avery Smith said the clubs were seeking a great way to end the year and have fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really close with DGR because we\u2019re doing Spring Sing together, so we kind of just wanted to do something to collaborate and end the year with a bang,\u201d Smith said. \u201cA lot of our girls love to dance, so DGR contacted me and said, \u2018Hey, let\u2019s do Delta Dancing. Let\u2019s get together in the mirror room and just have fun.\u2019\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The clubs agreed on an optional Western attire theme, encouraging participants to wear&nbsp; outfit pieces like cowgirl boots, hats and other traditional Western clothes. There was no cost for this unofficial function, and it was intended as an opportunity for people to bond and get to know each other better.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The function took place from 9-11 p.m. on Tuesday.
