{"id":17874,"date":"2023-03-24T11:59:19","date_gmt":"2023-03-24T17:59:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=17874"},"modified":"2023-03-24T11:59:20","modified_gmt":"2023-03-24T17:59:20","slug":"new-discount-chain-to-come-to-searcy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2023\/03\/24\/new-discount-chain-to-come-to-searcy\/","title":{"rendered":"New discount chain to come to Searcy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Written by Nic Fraraccio \/\/ Photo by Macy Cox<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of America\u2019s largest retailers of closeout merchandise and excess inventory is opening a new store in Searcy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ollie\u2019s Bargain Outlet is an American retail outlet chain that sells merchandise and household appliances under the motto \u201cGood Stuff Cheap.\u201d Ollie\u2019s offers merchandise at up to 70% off in 15 main store departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The store will be located on Race Avenue inside the former Natural State Throwers building. Ollie\u2019s currently owns 476 stores in the country, and the new Searcy location will be the sixth Ollie\u2019s store in Arkansas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the company is coming off one of the most successful years in its 20-year history. The company opened 15 new stores and ended with a year-over-year increase in store count by 8.7%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ollie\u2019s use of manufacturing closeouts and overstocks could give them a unique advantage against their retail competition. When manufacturers overstock certain items, Ollie\u2019s will buy these items and sell them at their own stores. Customers can find merchandise from many name-brand products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harding students and faculty have already shown interest in the new retail outlet. Sophomore Hazel Jackson, who has shopped at Ollie\u2019s before, said Ollie\u2019s will serve as a helpful clothing source for students at the University.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a college student, it\u2019s hard finding financial stability on your own for the first time, so having thrift stores and second-hand shops to find the stuff you need is always helpful if you\u2019re trying to save a little bit of cash,\u201d Jackson said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; Associate professor of business Glen Metheny said he hopes Ollie\u2019s can help Harding students find clothes and appliances for a reasonable price.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou get what you pay for, and if the quality of the products at Ollie\u2019s is really good, then you might find some great bargains,\u201d Metheny said. \u201cAnd who doesn\u2019t like to bargain hunt and bargain shop?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Junior Fernando Vides likes to spend some of his free time going to thrift shops and outlet stores. Vides said he plans to visit Ollie\u2019s because it can provide students with an efficient way to collect good clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou can find stuff in really good condition,\u201d Vides said. \u201cIt\u2019s good quality, it\u2019s cheap and it\u2019s sustainable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The store is currently undergoing renovations to install new flooring. Products and merchandise have not been moved to the new store location.
