{"id":17790,"date":"2023-03-02T20:37:44","date_gmt":"2023-03-03T02:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=17790"},"modified":"2023-03-02T20:37:46","modified_gmt":"2023-03-03T02:37:46","slug":"hu16-presents-shock-talk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2023\/03\/02\/hu16-presents-shock-talk\/","title":{"rendered":"HU16 presents &#8216;Shock Talk&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Written by Sophie Thibodeaux and Gabriel Huff \/\/ Photo by Balazs Balassa <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HU16 news team has begun a new segment hosted by Dr. Jack Shock, distinguished professor of communication, called \u201cShock Talk,\u201d a 20-minute episode series featuring a variety of guests from the Harding community every Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first episode of the series began Feb. 21 and featured senior theatre major Josie Holman and sophomore theatre education major Timothy Brown discussing \u201cThe Crucible.\u201d Dr. James Miller, assistant dean of honors and associate professor of communication, filled in for Shock, who was out of town that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior Jacob Mooney said the show is run by the Broadcast Producing class taught by Dr. Ginger Blackstone, assistant professor of communication and HU16 news director, and filmed in the HU16 studio.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPretty much the whole premise of the show was just having a basic talk show where we invite some interesting people off campus to come and talk to us,\u201d Mooney, who is enrolled in Broadcast Producing, said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior Kendall Moshinksky, also enrolled in the producing course, said the class has produced four episodes of &#8220;Shock Talk&#8221; so far. Episode two aired Feb. 23, featuring Rivers West, a young local band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey came on and talked about their music and then did a performance of one of their songs,\u201d Moshinksky said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Episode three, featuring Harding\u2019s first Spring King, will air next week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blackstone discussed the decision to create the talk show in addition to the newscast the department already produces..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe decided to do a talk show, and each person in the class has to oversee an episode,\u201d Blackstone said. \u201cThey are the ones that voted on who we wanted our host to be, and they said, \u2018Jack Shock,\u2019 and he said he could do it.
