{"id":17744,"date":"2023-02-23T20:18:06","date_gmt":"2023-02-24T02:18:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=17744"},"modified":"2023-02-23T20:18:07","modified_gmt":"2023-02-24T02:18:07","slug":"22-teams-compete-in-annual-pickle-ball-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2023\/02\/23\/22-teams-compete-in-annual-pickle-ball-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"22 teams compete in annual pickle ball tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Written by Mattie Powers \/\/ Photo by Balazs Balassa<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harding Recreation hosted its second annual pickleball tournament the weekend of Feb. 17-18<sup> <\/sup>in the Ganus Activities Complex.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12 teams signed up for the advanced tournament, and 10 teams signed up for the novice tournament, including sophomores Madison Soper and Aya Giggleman, with the team name \u201cPickleball Gals.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAya, my teammate, and I spend a lot of time playing pickleball together as a way to find time to see each other,\u201d Soper said. \u201cSo, since the tournament was coming up, it seemed like a good way to see her and also have some fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similar to last year\u2019s tournament, there were two different brackets, one for an advanced category and the other for a novice division. The players started competing on Friday evening and went through Saturday morning. Each of the brackets for the tournament had eight teams of single elimination play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior Gabe Hosticka played in one of the teams, called \u201cA Box of Pickles.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis game is a great way to build friendships because it can be played in so many different ways,\u201d Hosticka said. \u201cYou can play super fast and competitive, slow and conversational or anywhere in between.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Junior Emilie Wilkinson was one of the players in this competition who consistently plays pickleball in her free time.
