Members said the celebration looked different this year as the club emphasized a return to its roots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has a big sleepover-type vibe,\u201d senior Delta Nu president Allison Wisdom said. \u201cIt\u2019s getting together and just confiding in each other and being silly with each other.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added that although the club\u2019s beaux will sometimes drop by briefly, the function is solely for the women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior activities directors Chloe Cooper and Claire Cunningham said it was important to them to reclaim the annual tradition this year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When planning this year\u2019s event, they took inspiration from what they remembered from their freshman year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur first Anti-Valentine\u2019s Day was very \u2018slumber party,\u2019 &#8221; Cooper said. \u201cWomen empowerment, just very red, black and pink.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cunningham said last year\u2019s more masculine-themed Anti-Valentine\u2019s Day brought an entertaining side of its own as members donned suits and mustaches for the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNormally we try to make it super feminine, but that time, we were like, \u2018Let\u2019s make it masculine and make it funny,\u2019\u201d Cunningham said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cooper and Cunningham said the idea of going \u201cback to the roots\u201d of Anti-Valentine&#8217;s Day is about focusing on embracing femininity and having fun with just the women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would say it&#8217;s almost like reclaiming femininity and not being afraid to be super feminine,\u201d Cunningham said. \u201c&#8230; We do a lot of fun, silly things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A major part of the event is setting aside time to share stories with each other, Cooper and Cunningham said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe tell a lot of bad date stories, or funny stories or frustrating stories,\u201d Cunningham said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Campbell said having a safe space to share stories with each other is both empowering and a reminder not to take life too seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe stories that people tell \u2026 it&#8217;s like, \u2018Oh my gosh, that&#8217;s funny,\u2019 but actually, there&#8217;s a whole lot of heartbreaking stuff behind that,\u201d Campbell said. \u201cJust to be able to have a story [like that] and to make it out to something positive and funny for everybody.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cooper and Cunningham said the core traditions and secrets involved in the celebration are what makes it special to the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think for a lot of people in the club, femininity is definitely valued, but there&#8217;s almost a fear of feeding into it too much,\u201d Cunningham said. \u201cWe&#8217;re all very feminist-centered people, so it can be difficult to balance that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cunningham added that Anti-Valentine\u2019s Day is meant to be a safe space where members can feel liberated in being feminine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s basically just a time to unleash with the girls,\u201d Cooper said. \u201cIt is literally just the biggest girls\u2019 night out of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Morgan Wrigley \/\/ Photo provided by Delta Nu Women\u2019s social club Delta Nu celebrated \u201cAnti-Valentine\u2019s Day\u201d Sunday, Feb. 12.
